Scope of Practice
What this practice does, and what it doesn’t
Being clear about scope can help you find the right support sooner. Heartland Health provides individual psychological therapy and psychological assessment for children, adolescents and adults, with parent or carer involvement where appropriate.

Who is seen
Children, adolescents and adults
Heartland Health works with children, adolescents, adults, and parents and carers. For younger children, sessions usually involve parents or carers.
Psychological assessment for children and adolescents at Heartland Health is conducted in person. For adults, some parts of an assessment may be completed by secure telehealth where appropriate. Components requiring controlled or standardised administration, including relevant cognitive and academic assessment tasks, are completed in person.
More detail is on the Therapy & Support and Psychological Assessment pages.
In person and telehealth
In-person appointments are held at the clinic at 4B, 24–28 Corporation Circuit, Tweed Heads South NSW 2485.
Telehealth is routinely available across Australia where appropriate. If you will be outside Australia, please discuss this before the appointment, because legal, regulatory, insurance, privacy, safety and clinical considerations may affect whether the appointment can proceed.
Appointments are scheduled in AEST/AEDT – Sydney time. See Telehealth & Digital Services for how suitability is considered.
Limits of care
What psychological care cannot do
Psychological therapy and assessment can support understanding, skills and change, but outcomes vary between people and no particular result is promised. A psychologist cannot prescribe or advise on medication, cannot provide immediate crisis response, and cannot guarantee a diagnosis or a specific assessment outcome.
If you need immediate support
Heartland Health is not an emergency or crisis service. If you need urgent support, call 000 or contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.
There are services available around the clock, right across Australia — including Lifeline, Beyond Blue, Kids Helpline, 13YARN, QLife and state mental-health lines.
